Three Dog Night

I Three Dog Night sono un gruppo rock statunitense.

Si formarono nel 1967 con una line-up composta dai cantanti Danny Hutton, Cory Wells e Chuck Negron. Questa formazione fu presto ampliata da Jimmy Greenspoon (tastiere), Joe Schermie (basso), Michael Allsup (chitarra) e Floyd Sneed (batteria).

Il nome scelto deriva da un'espressione australiana riferita alle rigide temperature notturne.

La band registrò 21 Billboard Top hits (con tre hit numero uno) tra il 1969 e il 1975, contribuendo a far conoscere al pubblico mainstream Randy Newman, Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Harry Nilsson, Laura Nyro, Hoyt Axton, Leo Sayer fra i tanti.

Tra alti e bassi la band si sciolse nel 1977, con quattordici album alle spalle.

Quattro anni dopo ci fu una reunion dei tre membri originali, che nel 1983 pubblicarono il loro ultimo lavoro, “It's a Jungle”.

Dopo l'abbandono di Hutton, i musicisti superstiti hanno continuato ad andare in tournée con il nome Three Dog Night.

Nel 2004 è stato pubblicato “The 35th Anniversary Hits Collection” per festeggiare il trentacinquesimo anniversario di carriera. 

Il gruppo ha continuato a tenere concerti fino a quando Wells si è ritirato a causa delle gravi condizioni di salute che lo hanno portato alla morte in breve tempo.

Ma il viaggio continua…
