La nuova Steeleye Span
The Green Man Collection contiene
nuove canzoni e una title track inedita degli anni '80
Gli Steeleye Span hanno annunciato il loro tradizionale tour natalizio per novembre e dicembre. La lunga serie di date vede la band lai ha visti suonare inizialmente al Princess Theatre di Hunstanton e si protrae fino allo spettacolo finale alla Cadogan Hall di Londra il 18 dicembre.
Allo stesso tempo, la band pubblicherà The Green Man Collection attraverso Park Records, il 1° dicembre. Questa nuova raccolta di 15 tracce riunisce brani degli ultimi album della band insieme a nuove versioni di tre classici degli Steeleye, tra cui una rielaborazione di Hard Times Of Old England con Francis Rossi degli Status Quo e una cover di Shipbuilding scritta da Elvis Costello e reinterpretata da Robert Wyatt.
La title track Green Man è stata scritta da Bob Johnson, chitarrista e cantante della band dal 1972 al 1977, dal 1980 al 2000 e di nuovo nel 2002, e responsabile di molte delle loro ballate classiche dell'epoca. Precedentemente persa per 40 anni, la canzone affrontava la questione del cambiamento climatico molto prima che diventasse un argomento così diffuso.
